Mark Herold crafted this wine from the Hestan Estate, selecting only the best lots to create this offering. Dense, ruby/purple color with notes of melted licorice, blackberry and smoke, this full bodied wine has superb intensity, ripe tannins and a long, concentrated finish. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Wine Enthusiast, by Steve Heimoff, 97 points: Cellar Selection Massive, dramatic, beautiful, intense, but young and firm in tannins, with a cut of fresh acidity. Shows concentrated blackberries, black currants, violets, minerals and cedar, leading to a long, penetrating finish. Very great Cabernet, vibrant and potent, just tremendous in structure. Potentially a near perfect wine with 4-6 years in the bottle.
Wine Advocate, by Robert Parker, 93 points: The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon are more similar than dissimilar which is somewhat unusual for these two vintages. The fruit is slightly sweeter and riper in the 2007, with perhaps more volume, but both wines possess opaque purple colors as well as considerable levels of tannin, purity, depth, full-bodied power, and lots of blue and black fruits intermixed with licorice, and subtle smoky oak. Both are top-notch efforts that should evolve for 20-25 years.
Wine Spectator, by James Laube, 92 points: Dusty berry, savory herb, mineral and sage are full-bodied and concentrated, focused and balanced. A big yet juicy and expressive style that ends with firm, minerally tannins. Best from 2010 through 2016. 443 cases made.

| Harvest Notes: | The 2006 vintage featured wet weather that continued late into spring, delaying budbreak. By early June, the sun came out and vines began to bloom and set fruit. Mid-July presented a record-setting ten day heat wave, and the heat helped catch the vines up to a "normal" place in the growing season. Somewhat cooler weather arrived in August and continued throughout harvest, allowing for moderately paced and deliberate ripening and a long harvest period.

| Winemakers Notes: | Made by celebrated Napa Valley winemaker, Mark Herold, our flagship Hestan Cabernet Sauvignon is the result of uncompromising viticulture and winemaking. The grapes undergo a 5-day cold soak when they are brought into the winery, prior to fermentation. Fermentation begins naturally in small stainless steel tanks but is finished with cultured yeasts; the grapes were pressed at about 14 days and put into new French oak barrels with a heavy toast finish for 19 months.
