2005 Hestan Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5 L
The Hestan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is the result of uncompromising viticulture and winemaking. Boasting a dense, ruby/purple color and notes of melted licorice, pain grille, blackberry, and smoke, this full-bodied wine is intense with ripe tannins, good acidity, and a long, structured, but powerful and concentrated finish.
Mark Herold crafted this wine from the Hestan Estate, selecting only the best lots to create this 410 case offering. Dense in color with notes of melted licorice, blackberry and smoke, this wine is full-bodied and intense with a long, structured finish. Unfined and unfiltered.
Wine Advocate, by Robert Parker, 90 points:
The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a nose of creosote, blackberries, and blueberries, medium to full-bodied flavors displaying pure, concentrated black fruits, a sense of elegance, sweet tannin, and a good finish. It should drink well for 10-14 years.
This 42-acre vineyard (the entire estate encompasses 127 acres) is planted with Bordeaux varietals. Made by Mark Herold for Stanley and Helen Chang, there are approximately 400 cases of this limited production Cabernet.
Wine Spectator, by James Laube, 89 points:
Ripe and generous, with plush plum, black cherry and blueberry notes that are well-structured and perfumed. Ends with chewy tannins, though nothing a little time in the bottle shouldn't resolve. Best from 2010 through 2015. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 410 cases made.

Vineyard Notes
Hestan Vineyards is a 41-acre vineyard located at the base of Okell Hill on Napa Valley's eastern slopes. Individually farmed blocks planted to all five Bordeaux varietals--Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec--blanket the rolling hills overlooking the vineyard's 11-acre pond.
Production Notes
2005 was a year of moderate weather that resulted in a longer growing season and yielded a larger than average crop. However, the size of the crop was moderated in the vineyard by thinning and leaf canopy management. The overall quality of the vintage was excellent, with the grapes reaching full maturity and offering ripe, vibrant Cabernet flavors coupled with fine, smooth tannins.
Winemaker Notes
Mark Herold's objective is to produce intense, highly extracted, terroir-driven wines. In the vineyard, he fastidiously monitors the vines, adjusting canopy, irrigation, cover crops and cluster architecture vine by vine to promote the overall site signature as well as the more nuanced character of the individual blocks. In the cellar, Mark favors a cutting edge approach informed by science and accented by sheer sensual appreciation. Small capacity
